Elizabethan Era Inventions
The Pencil:
- Invented in Switzerland by Conrad Gesner in 1555.
- The quill was a really complex writing tool, Gesner invented the pencil to make writing easier.
- Wallpaper was invented in England during the 15th and 16th century.
- Was used to imitate the decoration the rich had on their walls and was also used to keep the cold out.
- Middle-class used wallpaper to make it look like they were richer than they actually were.
- Invented in 1509 by William Lee
- The knitting machine was useful because they could get more knitting done in little time.
- Invented by John Harrington in the 1590's
- He invented one for himself, but then gave one to Queen Elizabeth
- At first it did not catch on, but it later got very popular.
- Invented in 1593 by Galileo Galieli
- A closed glass tube with glass bulbs on the inside holding different liquids with different masses.
- First time ever falling and rising temperatures could be measured.
- This device is commonly used as decoration!
- Invented in the early 1500's
- The invention is credited to the locksmith Peter Henlein
- This was very advanced because all the other inventions similar to the pocket watch were much larger and less accurate.
